It has long been the one thing we all think of when it comes to a rocker and that is them trashing a hotel room.
This week Rod Stewart has finally received a nod from the chain Holiday Inn to once again stay there, after an instance that has led to his being banned for over forty years.
Rod and his fellow rockers are well-known for wrecking hotel rooms.
Here are a few to savour:
The who Drummer (the late) Keith Moon famously ran from police and ran a stolen car into a hotel’s swimming pool. The band were not allowed to go back.
One staple of the rock star hotel rumour farm is the way they throw TV’s out of windows. The man who did this in 1972 was Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards. He threw it out of a Tenth storey window and it went down in history.
The Faces have been noted as saying they would enjoy piling the rooms furniture into a lift and sending it to the lobby. They liked messing up a generic space.
Led Zeppelin’s drummer John Bonham was known to take his motorbikes for trips along hotel walkways. He was also a purveyor of TV throwing it seems.
Living icon Alice Cooper has seen many instances, but his drummer Neal Smith has the nod, as he was able to topple a huge vending machine on tour. Poor old Alice was only able to shock staff by having a huge live snake asleep in his hotel room bath.
Billy Idol had a wild three week stay in Bangkok during the 1980s and notched up over £200,000 in costs in costs.
The best in the business were the legendary Sex Pistols, who are noted as hitting hotel rooms like a bomb and decimating them.
Since punk rock has now became forty years old it is perhaps just that the band behind it in UK are up there when it comes to rock stars wrecking a hotel suite!
