Watch the best alternative Christmas covers

Blossoms, Noel Gallagher, David Brent and more get festive.

It's that time again. Every year the same old Christmas classics hog the airwaves for what feels like an eternity leading up to the big day. It seems like nothing new in terms of festive bangers has been released since the 1980's. Fear not, though - some of the biggest names in music cease the opportunity to give their own spin on those old, tired festive tunes. From Blossoms to The xx, we take a look at some of the best. Warning: there's an obscene amount of Wham.

Blossoms - 'Last Christmas'

Unlocking another door on their 'Blossmas' advent calendar, the Stockport lads treat fans to a version of Wham's festive hit. In what appears to be a straight down the line acoustic cover - the camera spins to reveal Myles, who delivers some, erm, impressive Christmas rapping: "Chritmas time, get out the mulled wine and carrots, cause Santa will have em". Nice.

Noel Gallagher - 'Merry Christmas Everyone'

Despite moaning at any given opportunity and a self-confessed hate for the festive period - even Noel Gallagher can get into the spirit of things, for four minutes at least. Check out his melancholic, stripped-back version of the Slade rocker. As you were.

David Brent - 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas'

Living out his past fantasy of becoming a rockstar, Ricky Gervais took to the Live Lounge as alter ego David Brent last week.  This cringe-inducing version of  the Frank Sinatra classic, complete with awkward looks to camera and sniggers, sees the Slough-based character and his band The Foregone Conclusion reach never levels of suraccess.

Slaves - 'Last Christmas'

Here we have another version of the Wham classic. Slaves somehow - and quite impressively - suck out all of heartwarming, tingly feeling from the original and infuse the track with their signature punk angst. They certainly made it their own

The xx: Last Christmas

In the opposite to Slaves' version, The xx put their moody stamp on Wham, transforming the complete Christmas cheese fest into an ice cold electronic soundscape.

Peace: Christmas Wrapping

Portraying a drunk, scruffy Santa, Peace frontman Harry Koisser struts down a cold country lane to the Brummie Boy's bouncing Waitressess cover.
