The Diplo-curated Mad Decent Boat Party, during which Major Lazer, Skrillex and MO were set to perform, was abruptly ended yesterday after a woman jumped overboard 20 miles off the coast of Cuba. The woman is still missing.
The cruise, which set sail from Miami on Wednesday (11 November), was headed for Cozumel, Mexico when the incident occurred.
As Mixmag reports, passengers were immediately sent back to their rooms, and lifeboats were sent out while event organisers contacted the US coast and Cuban autorities. At the time of writing, the unnamed woman - who witnesses say intentionally jumped off the boat - is still missing.
A statement from Norwegian Cruise Lines, who own the chartered ship, read, "On Thursday, November 12 during a chartered cruise on Norwegian Pearl, a female guest was observed intentionally going overboard while the ship was sailing the Yucatan Channel.
"The ship's crew immediately initiated rescue measures, including deploying three rescue boats and notifying the Coast Guard and other relevant authorities. The search for the guest is ongoing. Both the ship and charter company teams are providing support to the family and all impacted guests during this difficult time."
The music has been brought to a halt, and the boat is currently heading back to the coordinates closest to where the woman was last seen onboard.
