Mariah Carey's manager, Jermaine Dupri, has penned a rather defensive open letter to fans of the singer who blame him for the poor sales of Carey's latest opus, Me. I Am Mariah...The Elusive Chanteuse.
Regrettably, the album's content didn't quite live up to its ambitious title, and lukewarm reviews combined with almost non-existent promotion ensured the record garnered Mariah's lowest opening week sales since 1991.
Fans, however, don't blame The Elusive Chanteuse - they blame her longtime manager, Jermaine Dupri. Dupri has now responded to criticism from Mariah's fans in a defensive open letter, writing: "in the music business things don't always go as fast as you want them to."

"Okay enough is enough!! I can't continue to let you think, what you see or don't see is a result of me not knowing what I'm doing. This is bigger than me and in the music business things don't go as fast as you would always like them to."
"If you know my history, you know I want to go down as one of the greatest producers of all times. I want to be mentioned with the greats like Berry Gordy and Clive Davis when people talk about putting out artist.
"So for me, allowing you to believe I don't care about the promotion of the Mariah record and I don't see you screaming at me, that this song and that song needs to be a single, goes against everything that I'm about, believe me! Everything that you question will be answered ASAP!!!!"
Well, that's that settled then. Meanwhile, Mariah has turned her attention to promoting Butterfly, an "interactive melodic" (!) non-alcoholic beverage which is "inspired by the magic of Mariah Carey". Of course.
