Pete Doherty has revealed that the reformed Libertines are getting on better than ever, as they gear up to headline their huge comeback gig in London's Hyde Park.

Performing as part of a string of British Summertime gigs in central London tonight (Saturday 5 July, 2014), The Libertines are arguably the talking point of the event, despite sharing the bill with fellow headliners Arcade Fire, Black Sabbath and yes, McBusted.

The band made their name, not only with their indie anthems, but also their behind-the-scenes drama, but now, Doherty has revealed that the band are closer than ever, having reformed more mature and more focused.

"We're getting on better than we ever did. Even back in the day," the frontman tells NME. "The Libertines, in order for us to do it, it means you put everything else at risk, basically."

"I always use words like, 'Oh it's unfathomably great' or 'unspeakably great' but 'unspeakably great' would be the correct adjective now."

However, bandmate Carl Barat added that the comeback was a nerve-wracking experience, saying that their recent warm-up gig at Glasgow's Barrowlands was a difficult show.

"I was terrified," Barat told the magazine. "But in a good way. It's that classic irony of The Libertines and my life in general – you're doing the thing you want to do, but you're in your own personal hell! That seems to be the way."
