Pete Doherty has discussed the 'hallucinatory terror' he used to experience on stage while playing with The Libertines.

To mark the band's huge shows at Alexandra Palace, Doherty was interviewed by the Daily Star (who helpfully explain that the Libertines frontman has "consumed more drugs than George Clooney has broken hearts").

Doherty told the paper that since his last big show at Benicassim in July he is both happier within the band and himself. "'I've always had a lot of problems before going on stage. Not nerves, I don't know what it is exactly, a kind of hallucinatory terror, that did not happen at Benicassim. There, everything was fine.

"It had nothing to do with drugs, the crowd, or journalists, nothing to do with heroin, Kate Moss, Lily Allen or anyone else, but everything was good, and at the next Babyshambles concert it was the same.''

Doherty also paid tribute to his band members for accepting him.''I don't feel like a fucking monster. 'Because I'm not used to a lot of acceptance in general, I thought people would only be able to tolerate me, and it is not like that.''

Asked about his hopes for the future, Doherty explained: ''We were supposed to be a huge group, that was our goal, part of our plan, to break through, to reach as many hearts and souls as possible.''

Recently The Libertines played to over 21,000 people over three nights at Alexandra Palace. According to William Hill the band are 16/1 to headline Glastonbury.
