Jarvis Cocker has said he would see it as a success if people were to fall asleep during his night-time radio show.

The Pulp singer is set to helm the next edition of his Radio 4 show Wireless Nights, which will form part of the station's BBC Philharmonic Presents... series.

During the show, Cocker will discuss various aspects of insomnia, and the role of classical music in making it through the night.

Speaking to The Guardian about the show, Cocker said: “I wanted to record the programme with all the lights out, but in the end we had to settle for it being very dim in the studio so the players could see the music."

He added, "“But they were very good sports and agreed to do a little improvisation in total blackness.”

As for his broadcasting style, Cocker admitted: "“It’s deliberately low-key as I’d regard it as quite a success if people were to nod off during the broadcast."

Wireless Nights with Jarvis Cocker airs on Radio 4 at 11pm on 13 October.
