AC/DC's Angus Young has spoken out against ageism in the music industry, and taken a swipe at The White Stripes while he's at it.

Speaking to Kerrang, Young said: "That's why I love America. They don't think in terms of age. They don't care. As long as you're good. In the UK, it's always been this very industry-driven thing, with the BBC right at the head of it. Top Of The Pops, always greedy for new things, dumping good musicians by the roadside, just because they're 27.

"My thinking is, if you can do it, fucking get out and do it. And stop fucking saying, 'I'm 40 now, I'm throwing all my Queen albums away now'. It's music, just enjoy it!"

He continued by saying that music is "ageless", adding: "It was good then and it's still good now. Listen to The Troggs do 'Wild Thing' and I don't care what anyone says. Fuck The White Stripes, listen to that! Listen to the drums! And the guitars! It's raw."

Young also briefly discussed his brother and former bandmate Malcolm, who is suffering from dementia. "He's in good care, and that's the best you can do. Getting the best care you can get for what he has... the dementia. He's getting as much care as you can hope for."

AC/DC's new album, Rock Or Bust, is due for release on Monday 1 December. Read the full interview in this week's Kerrang.
