Mark Ronson has scored his first ever No.1 with 'Uptown Funk', thanks in a large part to the ever-intrusive X Factor.

Due to Fleur East covering the track on Simon Cowell's Saturday night black hole of culture, Ronson was forced to release the song early to combat the cover soaking up sales. Following it's release on Monday 8 December the song scored a chart tally of 118,000, comprising of 105,000 downloads and 1.35 million streams

"This is my first Number 1 SINGLE as an artist OR producer so I just want to thank everyone who bought, downloaded or DJ'd 'Uptown Funk' this past week," said Ronson. "It's pretty much the coolest thing ever. I also have to thank Phil Smeeze, Jeff Bhasker and the boy wonder Bruno Mars without whom there'd be no jam."

The impressive sales put the song in good stead to land the coveted Christmas No.1 spot, ahead of competitors including Iron Maiden, X Factor and Band Aid 30.

As for the rest of the charts, Ed Sheeran's 'Thinking Out Loud' has slipped to No.2 and Band Aid 30 has jumped from 12 to 3 this week following its physical release. 'These Days' by Take That is at No.4 and Oliver Heldens’ Last All Night (Koala) is at No.5.
