Rock has been by far the biggest-selling genre in music over the last six years, according to newly published data.

Despite artists such as Gene Simmons, The Neighbourhood, and Diplo repeatedly insisting that "rock is dead", the genre has proven itself the most resilient to declining album sales in recent years following the rise of online torrenting.

According to Statista, rock albums were the biggest selling genre in the US in 2014, selling 85.25 million units - 50 million more units than the next biggest-selling, R&B.

Though all genre's sales fell last year, rock sales fell by the least, while R&B saw the most dramatic decrease - 25.2%.
