Metallica's Lars Ulrich has promised the band will "shake up" the history of Glastonbury with their Saturday night headlining set.
Speaking to NME, the drummer discussed the criticism the band have faced from festival-goers who don't think the group are a good fit - as well as fellow musicians such as Mogwai, who called them "terrible".
"I am aware of the fact that there are some people with opinions, which is fine," said Ulrich. "There always is with opinions. We've been doing this for the better part of 30 years and everybody's always got something to say about Metallica...it's better that people have an opinion than no opinion."

Stating why he thinks there's been such a backlash, Ulrich added: "Obviously Glastonbury is an institution and has a lineage and a history that is unlike anything else. And here comes the big bad hard rock band to shake all that up..."
Metallica headline the Saturday night (June 28) of the festival, which opened its gates today. Arcade Fire top the bill on the Friday, whilst Kasabian wrap things up on the Sunday.
