The Electric Ballroom is a fitting venue for a group who have come as far as 65daysofstatic. They are as modest as they come but need space to fill and are unapologetic to anyone who gets in the way of their crescendo of sound. Noise is this bands main weapon but this is backed up with an in depth knowledge of dance music and lexicon of genre splicing.

They are faultless again tonight if not a little incomprehensible from the group of the early days given their much changed line-up. Indeed the only words they exchange with the crowd are brief ‘thank you’s and towards the end of their set a short spiel about how we shouldn’t have to do things we don’t want to do. The music is the main talking point however with signature tracks like ‘Radio Protector’, ‘Retreat Retreat’ and ‘Don’t Go Down To Sorrow’ from their latest effort sounding monumental.

Indeed, it is the new material off recent album ‘The Destruction Of Small Ideas’ which is the most encouraging. What is most interesting about this live show is that you come to realise how each new track you here makes you stand-up and listen. What has been the problem with their work in the past was that too often it was patchy with the group’s efforts fading into musak and boredom territory when you felt they should be wowing you with soundscapes. Quite simply, their third album blows their previous recorded output clean away and it is the same in the live setting.

As flawless as 65DOS are, mention must be given to the outstanding Youthmovies who deliver a set of cathartic experimental madness with some delightful bits of ska thrown in courtesy of Sam Scott’s barely audible trumpet. It’s almost enough to start making you think that the Math Rock peddled by 65DOS should be a thing of the past until the ten minute technical fault interlude. Consequently math rock wins the day, but if you’ve got even an iota of sense about you you’ll be on iTunes downloading the hell out of these two groups until your face falls off and your ears steam with pleasure.
