Hacked Sony emails have revealed that the studio wanted to give Spider-Man into EDM in a bit to make him seem more relevant.
As pointed out by Twitter user @DukeLovesyou, during the development of Amazing Spider-Man 2, an email appears to have been sent by executive Nick Shore to CEO Michael Lynton that suggesting that everyone's favourite web slinger.
It contained the following phrase: "EDM (electronic dance music) is the defining music for millenials. Wondering if there is an EDM angle somewhere with Spidey. His movements are beautiful, would be awesome with a killer DJ behind it."
Other suggestions from Shore include incoproating in no particular oder: Tough Mudder (described as "a sort of filthy triathalon"), The Color run, Hot Power Yoga, veganism, the hashtag NBD, humblebrags and Snapchat. The term "buzzworthy" also appears.
Thankfully the finished soundtrack for Amazing Spider-Man 2 was eventually produced by Pharrell Williams and Hans Zimmer and featured the other millenial favourite Kendrick Lamar. For reasons that can't really be explained there is also the band Tonight Alive performing emo by numbers The Edge (sadly nothing to do with the U2 hat-wearer).
Gigwise's view? We're convinced handled the right way, the right DJ could do it (we'd love to what Skrillex, WhatSoNot, Diplo or Dillon Francis could do with the visuals, particularly when Electro was on screen). But mainly we're just so relieved that every bad idea we've ever put on an email isn't publicly available...
