Fifteen years since forming and nearly three years after the scorching rock’n’soul of 'Wonderland', The Charlatans return with their eighth album 'Up At The Lake'. The band have been working on the album in their recording studio, Big Mushroom in Cheshire, practically every day for the previous 12 months. The album was solely produced by the band but also includes mixes by Ken Nelson, Jim Spencer and The Chemical Brothers.
The last couple of years had been helter-skelter ride for The Charlatans; Burgess made a solo album and toured with a new band. Collins did a bit of production, and toured with Starsailor. The ‘Blunt and Rogers Roadshow’ toured Ireland DJing, while Brookes drummed on some Chemical Brothers tracks: "Some people thought this album wouldn’t happen", Burgess argues, "I never thought that, but everyone felt very, very weird. I knew it wouldn’t be the end of The Charlatans, but...would be a new beginning for us".
'Up At The Lake' was released on May 17 through Universal / Island Records. The band will be touring the UK through May and June and, due to huge demand, they have just announced a second shows in Glasgow (May 25) and Manchester (May 28).
