"I always want to break down more boundaries," Steve Aoki tells Gigwise, smiling from across a plush London hotel room, "to be able to work with as many different people as possible."
Indeed, be it in his own personal life or his ambitious new album Neon Future, Aoki sees beyond the dividing lines of genre - which is what helps him become such an active collaborator.

"I feel like artists like Skrillex and some of the bigger artists like Calvin Harris, they're artists that have been testing the boudaries and shaping culture - shaping dance music with the influence of their songs," Aoki tells Gigwise.
"I never feel like I came in from the front door, I feel like I came on from the side, and that's how Skrillex came into the scene. He came in on a different wave that no one expected and it took people off-guard, and people realised 'oh, here's a sound that I've never really heard before that sounds masterfully great'."
See above as the stadium-filling DJ and producer talks to Gigwise about his creative process, what it takes for him to collaborate from someone and what it was like to work with the likes of Will.I.Am, Empire Of The Sun's Luke Steele and 'the journey' of writing with Linkin Park'.
