Coldplay are set to perform at the Pepsi Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show on February 7, 2016, live from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA - but football fans aren’t too pleased about it.

NFL made the announcement during the Thursday Night Football game between the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions. It will be the first time seven-time Grammy Award winning rockers will play the halftime show.

The ‘Fix You’ frontman, Chris Martin, will design the show to echo the NFL’s On the Fifty campaign, which will honour the past and present, looking on to the next 50 years. Other special artists will also be involved.

Unfortunately for the ‘Clocks’ rockers - who released their seventh album, A Head Full Of Dreams, today - the internet didn’t take too kindly to the news.

There were however, some Coldplay fans who received the news well.

Coldplay have just released their latest album, A Head Full Of Dreams. Prior to the release, the British rockers gave their fans the opportunity to design the artwork for the album.

Coldplay are currently on tour. Tickets can be bought here
