Arcade Fire have unveiled a new track in the shape of 'I Give You Power'. You can stream it below now.
Featuring guest vocals of blues singer Mavis Staples, the slick electronic cut is the band's first offering of new material since 2013's Reflektor - though it's not due be part of their upcoming 2017 record.
Acting as a politically-inspired stepping stone into the Canadian band's new era, the track begins with keys and surges of deep synth bass. Win Butler delivers the lyrics " "I give you power / But now I say / I give you power / I can take it away".
Upon release, the band took to Twitter to say: "It's never been more important that we stick together & take care of each other".
There were previous reports suggesting that the band would share a non-album track to coincide with Trump's inauguration, and Win Butler hasn't held back when discussing the new President. Speaking at a Red Bull Music lecture last year, Butler named Trump "a complete fucking nightmare".
All proceeds from the track release will go to American Civil Liberties Union.
In what's become common practice with artists about to unveil a new project, the band have also given their social media sites an overhaul. Every previous post has been deleted from their Instagram - replaced by an animated infinity sign logo. Mysterious.
Drummer Jeremy Gara has recently given an update on the anticipated fifth album, saying that it "should come out this year" and is currently at the mixing stage.
The band will hit the festival circuit this summer with dates including Primavera and a UK festival exclusive performance at Isle of Wight Festival. If you're heading there, expect new songs...
