‘The Kids Don’t Wanna Come Home’ sees Declan McKenna allowing his peers to voice the concerns of his generation, including sexism, racism, homophobia and more.
The combination of archive footage and clips of Declan riding his bike around the residential suburb of Barnet, London creates a sense that these problems have gone on for too long, and hopes to inspire viewers.
Speaking about the track, Declan McKenna explains, “The video is about highlighting the genuine concerns of young people, and so in that light, it’s not all about convicting acting performances, but merely letting them talk. It’s something that the human race has shied away from doing to its young people throughout history.”
Having already featured on BBC’s Sound of 2017 list and having performed on Later…With Jools Holland, Declan McKenna is pushing to give his generation a voice, starting with his inspiring video for ‘The Kids Don’t Wanna Come Home’.
