Robert Plant has announced details of his 11th solo album and UK tour. Carry Fire is released on October 13 via Nonesuch/Warner and the former Led Zeppelin singer is to play 14 dates including gigs at London’s Royal Albert Hall and Wolverhampton’s Civic Hall. And if that wasn’t enough, Plant has also shared a preview of the album in the form of the video for new song, ‘The May Queen’.
The album is the follow-up to 2014’s Lullaby And… The Ceaseless Roar and once again features his backing band The Sensational Space Shifters. Pretenders vocalist Chrissie Hynde is also set to make a guest appearance.
Speaking of the new album, Plant said: “It’s about intention. I respect and relish my past works, but each time I feel the incentive to create new work, I must mix old with new.
“Consequently, the whole impetus of the band has moved on its axis somewhat – the new sound and different space giving way to exciting and dramatic landscapes of mood, melody and instrumentation.”
The new track, ‘The May Queen’, finds Plant once again mixing the blues with African rhythms as he reflects on the ageing process and the power of love and its ability to inspire and give life. "Out here the fire's still burning so long into my night," Plant sings. "Still captive and still yearning / Surrender to your light."
