Philadelphia rapper Lil Uzi Vert shared his new debut studio album Luv Us Rage 2 last night, the follow up to his debut mixtape Luv Is Rage. Including platinum hit single ‘XO TOUR Llife3’, it features guest appearances from The Weeknd and Pharell.
The album has all the brazenness of his stage dive at 2017’s Rolling Loud Festival earlier this year where he claimed he’s “a rock star.” In true rock star style, the album sees him tackling his new-found fame and success. One track, ‘For Real’, sees him comparing his diamonds to those of Pharell’s, the man he later shares verses with on ‘Neon Guts.’
Things are brought down from these heady heights to stripped back, emotionally raw songs about pain, love and broken relationships. ‘Feelings Mutual’ and ‘XO TOUR Llif 3’ show us that despite the diamonds, Lil Uzi Vert is just like us after all. Channelling rap with rock, the album is one of the most exciting to drop in 2017.
Luv is Rage 2 loses none of the innovation of the three mixtapes he released in 2016, Lil Uzi Vert vs. the World, The Perfect Luv tape and 1017 vs. the World. You can listen to the album in full here:
