Metallica have hinted that they may open their Saturday night headline set at Glastonbury with a cover of 'Wonderwall' by Oasis, following in the footsteps of Jay Z.

The rapper opened his headline performance in 2008 with a cover of the Britpop anthe, and in a new interview with The Guardian newspaper, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has suggest that they may do likewise. Oasis were one of the rumoured bands to take the Saturday night headline slots at this year's Worthy Farm festival, after Liam Gallagher spelled out the word 'O.A.S.I.S' on Twitter but a reunion wasn't on the cards. He was just pissed in the pub.

Oasis fans many, however, hear one of the band's most famous songs on the Pyramid Stage after all.

"Jay Z came out and played 'Wonderwall', right?" Ulrich said in his interview with The Guardian. "So maybe we gotta go out and do our rendition of 'Wonderwall'. We’ll start with 'Wonderwall' and we’ll take it from there.

"Listen, you’ve just gotta go out and be yourself and be proud of what you’re doing."

Ulrich also revealed that the band's setlist would not be prepared in advance of arriving on the Glastonbury site, adding that the "straight-up Metallica setlist" would be written in the minutes before going on stage.
