Kendal Calling festival 2014 officially started yesterday (1 August), with performances from Suede, De La Soul, Jimi Goodwin and countless others on day one of the Lake District-based event.

Running over this weekend, yesterday saw Britpop icons Suede headline the main stage, with frontman Brett Anderson on typically energetic form, entering the crowd throughout a hit-filled performance featuring tracks from the group's vast back catalogue.

Unforeseen delays meant hip hop legends De La Soul were over 40 minutes late for their early-evening performance, however the trio still managed to win the crowd over with a short, high intensity set.

Over on The Calling Out Stage (sponsored by Gigwise), indie up and comers Catfish and the Bottlemen drew a huge audience and were on visceral form, whilst headliner Jimi Goodwin treated fans to both Doves’ classics and songs from his acclaimed solo record, Odludek.

As predicted, rain has intermittently battered the festival site throughout, and shows no sign of stopping before Frank Turner’s headline slot tonight on the main stage.

Performances from 2ManyDJ’s, The Happy Mondays, Razorlight and also lined up for the second day of this year’s event, before Example closes the festival tomorrow night (3 August).
