Former TATU member Lena Katina has released a statement after bandmate Yulia Volkova gave an extremely homophobic interview on Russian TV, despite making money out of a fake same-sex romance.
As Gay Star News reports, TATU member Yulia Volkova was speaking on Russian TV when she said that she would not 'accept' her son if he turned out to be gay, as she thinks men should be 'real men' and not 'fags', which is pretty deplorable.
"Yes, I would condemn him, because I believe that a real man must be a real man," she said when asked about her son being hypothetically homosexual. "God created man for procreation, it is the nature. The man for me is the support, the strength of... I won't accept a gay son."
She added: "Two girls together - not the same thing as the two men together. It seems to me that lesbians look aesthetically much nicer than two men holding their hands or kissing," she actually said on public television.
Fear not though, she says she's not homophobic - some of her best friends are gay. She just doesn't want her son to be a 'fag', but that would be better than a criminal.
"But! I want to say that I'm not against gays, I just want my son to be a real man, not a fag. I have many gay friends," she said, desparately. "I believe that being gay is all still better than murderers, thieves or drug addicts. If you choose out of all this, being gay a little better than the rest."
Since this interview, Volkova's former TATU bandmate has taken to Facebook to release a slightly more tolerant statement regarding her view on LGBT rights.
