In his first British interview in five years, Jamie T has discussed how Blur's Damon Albarn gave him advice on how to make good music.
The singer will release his much-anticipated third album on 29 September, after four years of silence, during which a Facebook group called, 'Where is Jamie T?' was set up.
Speaking to The Guardian about his lengthy absence, Jamie T responded to one fan's suggestion that he was "just minted and lazy." He told the paper, "Certainly not minted. Certainly not lazy. I write more songs than anyone I know. I've never stopped writing."
He continued, "[It was] a crisis of confidence. I always knew what I wanted to say. But I struggled at points to write anything I'd deem releasable."
The singer also revealed that he was inspired to change his sound by the dramatic reinventions of Blur. Albarn, he said, "told me to write from the heart. To not give a fuck what anyone else thinks. He said that was the only way I was gonna get a record that was... I think he might have said 'As good as mine'."
Jamie T is embarking on a full UK tour in October. The full list of tour dates is below, with tickets on sale now. For tickets and more information visit here.
