Long standing Hyperdub artist The Spaceape has passed away, following a five year struggle with cancer.

A statement released by the label said that the vocalist, real name Stephen Samuel Gordon died on Thursday (2 October). Instrumental in the rise of Kode 9 and his imprint, he is a presence that no doubt will be sorely missed.

"He passed away peacefully after a 5 year struggle with a rare form of cancer," a press release from the label reads. "He leaves behind his wife Luciana and 6 year old daughter, Cleo. Our sincere condolences go out to his family and friends, and all who have been touched by his writings and performances. His Hyperdub family will always miss him."

His musical legacy will live on through the catalogue of collaborative tracks he left behind with Burial, The Bug, Martyn and many more. Most recently he released the Killing Season EP, another great collaboration with Kode 9. R.I.P.
