Sugarhill Gang's Big Bank Hank has passed away at the age of 57.
The co-founder of the rap group had been battling cancer for the past few years, leading to kidney complications that finally led to his passing. News of the passing was confirmed by David Mallie, business manager of fellow Sugarhill members Michael 'Wonder Mike' Wright and Guy 'Master Gee' O'Brien.
"So sad to hear of our brother's passing. The three of us created musical history together with the release of 'Rapper's Delight'" Wright and O'Brien wrote in a statement. "We will always remember travelling the world together and rocking the house. Rest in peace Big Bank."
Formed in the 1970s, Sugarhill Gang were instrumental in the rise of rap music, their most famous track being the classic song, 'Rappers Delight'.
