Rapper Lil’ Wayne is allegedly demanding to be freed from his deal with Cash Money Records and wants Birdman, the label’s owner to pay him $8m (roughly £5.3m).
According to TMZ, Wayne will take legal action to free himself from the label. This is due to the fact that his new album ‘Tha Carter V’ has been delayed once more and Wayne claims that the label have violated his contract by doing that.
‘Tha Carter V’ is the upcoming eleventh studio album by Lil’ Wayne and was first announced in November 2012. As a result of the many delays, Wayne decided to treat fans by releasing a new mixtape entitled ‘Sorry 4 The Wait 2’.
Lil’ Wayne’s record label Young Money Entertainment, home to artists such as Drake and Nicki Minaj, is ironically a subsidiary of Cash Money Records. Wayne shocked fans at the end of last year by revealing that he wanted to be set free from Cash Money Records, tweeting:
I want off this label and nothing to do with these people but unfortunately it ain't that easy
