To protest the ‘Religious Freedom Restoration Act’ that was recently passed in Indiana, Wilco have canceled their upcoming show in at the Murat Theatre in Indianapolis.
The controversial new act, which was signed into law by Gov. Mike Pence this past Thursday, could give businesses the right to refuse services to the LGBT community.
In light of the act, Wilco decided that they are subsequently scrapping the show. “We are canceling our May 7 show at the Murat in Indianapolis,” they wrote. “The ‘Indiana Religious Freedom Restoration Act’ feels like thinly disguised legal discrimination to us. Hope to get back to the Hoosier State someday soon, when this odious measure is repealed. Refunds available at point of purchase.”
We're canceling our 5/7 show in Indianapolis. “Indiana Religious Freedom Restoration Act” feels like thinly disguised legal discrimination.

While some fans support the band’s decision to cancel the show, many Indiana-based fans are upset, as they feel that the boycott punishes fans who disagree with the act.
kudos to @Wilco for standing up to their beliefs. I hope the fans in #Indiana understand and stand up to their bigot representatives #Hi5

That excellent news when @Wilco doesn't play Indiana for it's backwards thinking "Religious Freedom" law. http://t.co/RTJOTO48PT #Indiana

i agree w/Indiana boycott in principle but i think collectively punishing people in state by canceling tour dates(as wilco did) seems unfair

Hey @Wilco, No one in Indiana in their right mind likes the #RFRA bill, but you canceling your show only screws the fans who bought tickets.

I don't see how canceling shows in Indiana is doing anyone any good. Music fans did not sign any laws. Mike Pence does not listen to Wilco

Wilco fans in Indiana are doing mental gymnastics right now. It's a bunch of "WE FANS didn't pass the law. Why punish us?" hand wringing.
