Liam Gallagher has slammed a string of bands including The Strokes, Bombay Bicycle Club and Keane in a typically outspoken new interview.
The former Oasis man hit out while speaking to live4ever.uk.com on a trip to New York last week promoting his clothing line Pretty Green.
Speaking about his views on The Strokes and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - bands he has admired in the past - Liam said: “Yeah they’re alright, they’re alright but they’re not writing f***ing proper tunes, they’re not writing classics - anything that can stand the test of time like The Beatles or The Stones.
“The only people that were doing that was us and we will continue to do that in different ways but ehh the scene in England, there isn’t one man. They’re all f***ing into careers man, they’re all just like fast food, havin’ one hit.”
Agreeing that most bands are on magazine covers one week and gone the next, Liam continued: “They go and have one f***ing hit and the next week they’re in f***ing rehab. ‘My F***ing Drug Problem’, by Tom Chapman or something.”
Asked whether he follows any new bands, Liam launched into a tirade: “I’m not gonna spend time watchin’ some stupid little band, that A: Don’t look good, that B: Haven’t got any tunes, and C: They want a career outta music. I’m not in it for a career, I’m here to touch people.
“Not to have a little one hit wonder. And a lot of these bands if they’ve got a good deal goin’, they’ll lick someones ass. Everyone in England at the moment, all these “rock stars” in England, they can f***in’ turn like that, they’re little pussy’s man.
“You know what I mean? They all lick people’s asses because they need their little song on the radio.... they make me wanna vomit, half of these kids in bands today.”
Responding to the interviewer's statement that you can still get a buzz out of hearing new music, Liam continued his rant.
“What do you want me to say?” he added “Do you want me to say I like Bloc Party? Do you want me to say I like… I don’t even know who the new bands are. Do you want me to say I like Fire Flies? Or Arcade… or f***in’ Bombay Bicycle - they can f*** off with that name for a start!
“So, I’m not gonna pick up Bombay Bicycle’s record coz of the stupid f***in’ name they’ve got - So, go on…”
