Macklemore has opened up about his Grammy win, saying he had "an unfair advantage due to race" at the Grammys, and that Kendrick Lamar "made a better rap album."
The rapper tweeted a text apology to Lamar following his triumph at last Sunday's (26 January) Grammys, where he won Best New Artist. Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance and, controversially, Best Rap Album.
My text to Kendrick after the show. He deserved best rap album... I'm honored and completely blown… http://t.co/TOnjGU6aGi

Speaking to Hot 97 after the awards, Macklemore said, "Knowing how the Grammys usually go, I knew that there would be a great chance that we'd win that award and, in essence, rob Kendrick. That's what happened. It kind of sucks. I think we made a great album. I think that Kendrick made a better rap album."
Macklemore added, "In terms of the people voting on those ballots, filling out those bubbles, we have an unfair advantage due to race, due to the fact we had huge radio success, due to the fact that our name was circulating more in a pocket in the industry of people filling out that ballot."
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' album The Heist, which features single 'Can't Hold Us', 'Thrift Shop' and 'Same Love', went Platinum in the United States, selling over a million copies.
