After weeks of rumour, the surviving members of Nirvana took to the stage at their induction to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, performing with Lorde, St Vincent, Joan Jett and Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon. See footage below.
Dave Grohl, Pat Smear and Krist Novoselic paid tribute to the late frontman Kurt Cobain, who died 20 years ago this week, performing a short set of Nirvana classics at the Brooklyn’s Barclays Center last night (Thursday 10 April, 2014).
Inducting the band was Cobain's close friend and REM frontman Michael Stipe, who said: "This is about community. Nirvana tapped into a voice that was yearning to be heard. Keep in mind the times, this was the late 1980s. The idea of America — that hopeful idea — had been dismantled."
In a surprising scene and despite decades of turmoil and bad blood, Courtney Love hugged Grohl and Novoselic, before saying: "I have a big speech but I’m not going to say it. I just wish Kurt could have been here."
Kicking off the performance was Joan Jett who played 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' with the band, before Gordon joined them for 'Aneurysm', St Vincent for 'Lithium' and concluding by Lorde singing 'All Apologies'
