Not only is he never afraid to speak his mind and one of the finest lyricists of the last 30 years, but he's probably the coolest man in rock with a politics degree.

Happy Birthday Kim Gordon! As the Sonic Youth icon turns 61, take a moment to show some respect for legendary bassists everywhere. Sure, everyone loves the frontman and bows down to worship the crazy axe skills of the world's best guitarists. Hell, people will even go wild for the drummer during an insane solo. But not very often do the bassists of the world get the credit they deserve.
Stood at the side of the stage, they're the glue that holds a band together. However it's one thing to have rhythm - it's another to be totally awesome at it.
