Speaking to Rolling Stone, a spokesperson for U2 insisted that new material was on its way.
"We've always said an album is expected this year," they said.
This goes hand in hand with what various other sources have reported. Universal Music Venezuela and Universal Music Colombia both tweeted saying the album was coming out in September. Although contrasting reports have stated that the band have pushed back their album release to 2015 in order to work with producer Paul Epworth.
French newspaper Nice-Matin reported that the group recently shot a new video in Nice, France, and the Irish Times quotes a source saying there will be an album in September or October and a tour announced in December, with dates beginning in April of next year. "It is believed," says the article, "the band will release it with little of the fanfare usually associated with a new U2 album."

Tabloid newspaper The Sun also recently reported that "the new album will drop before the end of the year, most likely in November." The band's 13th record would be their first album since 2009's No Line on the Horizon.
One source said that "The U2 comeback is very much on for this year." Adding that "This album has been a real struggle for them to make. It's taken a long time and Bono didn't find it easy. But they're very confident now and are convinced the wait has been worth it."
The band are also rumoured to play the iTunes Festival at London's Roundhouse in September, although no touring plans for the band have been confirmed yet.
Bono recently spoke to Zane Lowe in which he seemed pensive about the band's future. "We were trying to figure out, 'Why would anyone want another U2 album?," he said. "We’ll find out if we’re irrelevant."
