The Academy Is - 'The Phrase That Pays' (Fuelled By Ramen) Released 25/09/06

They're described by some as a hardcore band but one listen of 'The Phrase That Pays', the new single from The Academy Is, conjures up images of a band with swept over fringes and very small jeans. It's an inoffensive pop-punk song with a hum along chorus, along the lines of Taking Back Sunday without the passion or the oomph. How they have managed to build a fan base of more than 200,000 people on a certain music website is a mystery, the singer sounds like he's been bred in the same laboratory as Panic! At The Disco's frontman, and yes they can both hit every note with ease but there's no attitude, originality or excitement. This song is probably best used as back ground music, after all it's not much good as anything else.
