Dundee-based five-piece The Mirror Trap have shared exclusive footage from their recent tour supporting Placebo with Gigwise – and you can watch the band performing their political anthem ‘Silent Men’ at Edinburgh’s Corn Exchange below.
The track is taken from The Mirror Trap’s self-produced EP, Silent Men, which is out now via A Happy Death Recordings. The band’s full-length album is expected out later this year – and draws inspiration from the likes of Queens Of The Stone Age and The Stooges.
Watch The Mirror Trap performing 'Silent Men' live:
"We like a lot of different bands including artists ranging from Queens Of The Stone Age and the Stooges to Tears for Fears and Erasure,” the band have said of their sound. “We don't mind taking on elements of these bands’ music but we still want to sound like The Mirror Trap from Dundee. We just launch it all in and see what happens.”
As is the case with track 'Silent Men', The Mirror Trap use their music to voice their views on both politics and the state of the music industry. "We are being told that rock n' roll is dead, that the album is obsolete as a format, and that as young men in a town without industry we should throw our guitars onto the fire and aspire to get supervisor jobs in call centres," they have said.
"We refute that – we want to use our music to represent the fight. If music is considered only in terms of how many units it can shift then yes, now is not the time to be a musician of the heart. We want to fight back by writing better songs, putting on great shows, connecting with people instead of just pushing advertising slogans at them. We want to break through the plastic wall that currently surrounds music."
