Courtney Barnett’s single ‘Kim’s Caravan’ has been released for Record Store Day. Watch it below.
The song is a dark reflection of how she feels about the changes in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. Barnett said of the video ''Kim's Caravan' is an apocalyptic tale of our world painted black with oil and soot, painted red with blood and greed. The song was born when blessed with time to reflect, feeling the frustration and helplessness of the destruction of my environment and the litter of humans within it. It was partly inspired by watching Black Rain Falls, a documentary about Midnight Oil's concerts out the front of the Exxon building in NYC in 1990."
The video is a visit to seemingly desolate places from her childhood, and sees Barnett sinking at the end. Lines like “The Great Barrier Reef it ain’t so great anymore / It’s been raped beyond belief, the dredgers treat it like a whore" only grow more powerful.

‘Kim’s Caravan’ appears on her debut album Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit, released in March.
Released exclusively for Record Store Day - Saturday 18 April - the 12” includes a B-side cover of John Cale’s ‘Close Watch’. Courtney Barnett was recently announced as playing Glastonbury and she'll also be performing at Green Man.
