You may recall that Meghan Trainor’s latest video for her new single ‘Dear Future Husband’ received some backlash for being “sexist”. Well, TheFineBros have made a new video, in which teens react to the lyrics of Trainor’s track.
As part of their ‘React’ series, TheFineBros had teenagers read the lyrics to ‘Dear Future Husband’ and filmed their reactions.
For instance, the teenagers read the line: “’Cause if you treat me right, I’ll be the perfect wife / Buying groceries, buy-buying what you need”.
One male teen interprets it as: “I’ll be the perfect wife. I’ll do kind of servantry kind of things is what it sounds like”. A female teen says that the line is “stereotypical”, and states that “If that’s what being a wife means, like f**k marriage”.
But when reading the line “You got that 9 to 5 but, baby, so do I. / So don’t be thinking I’ll be home and baking apple pies”, one male teenager asks: “The last lyric kind of throws me off, because, she said she’ll be the perfect wife, but if you want some apple pie that day, does he just go to McDonald’s and get it?”
Check out the video to hear the rest of the teens’ reactions.
