A new music festival has been launched in Washington, DC that will celebrate the National Mall, and the lineup features the likes of Drake, The Strokes, alt-J, Chvrches, Ben Howard, Chromeo, Band Of Horses, The War On Drugs, Nate Ruess, Twin Shadow and The Kills.
Landmark Music Festival, which will be held from September 26-27 at West Potomac Park, will donate a portion of its proceeds to The Trust For The National Mall’s Landmark Campaign, an official partner of the National Park Service, which aims to restore and improve the National Mall.
Speaking with The Washington Post about the event, president of the Trust for the National Mall Caroline Cunningham said: "If you walk down to the National Mall today, you will see cracked sidewalks. You will see the Tidal Basin is overcome by water twice a day because of the tides. There are not enough bathrooms and food facilities for young families, for visitors."
She said that the festival is a way to both raise awareness about the conditions and to raise funds. The festival is a way to attract the attention of millennials, who she calls the "next generation of stewards of the Mall." The festival promises to be family friendly, and will be offering free admission to children younger than 10.
