2017 comeback star Ed Sheeran has officially revealed full album details. ÷ (pronounced divide) will come out on 3 March through Asylym/Atlantic Records. You can pre-order from 12am tomorrow (13 January) here.
Moreover, Sheeran has broken yet another streaming record this week - 'Shape Of You' makes Spotify history again, breaking the record for ‘one day’ streams accumulating 7,940,950, which knocks Adele’s 'Hello' off of the top spot!
Counting both new cuts, 'Castle On The Hill' and 'Shape Of You', they're already outselling the Official Chart Company’s Top 20 singles chart combined this week. Wow.
Speaking of his record breaking return Sheeran commented: “First off, what a week! The reaction to my new singles has been absolutely mind-blowing and I can’t thank you enough. My new album ÷ holds a very special place in my heart and I really believe this is my best work to date. I’ve been eager to get back and I couldn’t be more excited for March 3rd.”
According to the press release from his record label, "Musically ÷ is an array of beautifully orchestrated and emotive ballads, impassioned raps laid over hip hop beats, timeless acoustic guitar masterpieces and innovative, idiosyncratic pop music."
The two singles came out last week at 5am with little warning other than a series of mysterious social media tweets a few days beforehand.
Sheeran had spent the entire of 2016 on a gap year. In December 2015, the singer announced he'd be taking a break from music so he could "travel the world and see everything I missed."
In terms of live dates nothing has been confirmed for Sheeran yet although he is heavily rumoured to be headlining Glastonbury.
Meanwhile, Sheeran has done an incredible cover of the Fresh Prince Of Bel Air theme tune for radio after a listener called in to say "I have two loves both you and the TV sitcom Fresh Prince Of Bel Air. It would make my life if you possible bring the two together and sing the Fresh Prince intro bit for me."
