A campaign has started to open a Hip Hop Hall of Fame in New York City.
It has been revealed that a long awaited rap counterpart to the illustrious Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame could be in the works, with an opening date coming as soon as spring 2015.
A funding campaign has been initiated through Indiegogo to raise $1million, which would enable a museum to open up in Harlem in spring before moving to a permanent home in Midtown in the future.
$500,000 has already been raised, and if the target is reached then a temporary museum could open as soon as April 2015, with the permanent museum launching in 2016/2017.
The project has apparently been in the works since 1992, when the first Hip Hop Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony was held, and the museum already has a wealth of items ready to display, donated by the likes of Eminem, Run DMC, Snoop Dogg, Outkast and a host of others.
As well as the museum, the Hall of Fame will also host Youth Media Training & Education Academy, which will train 50 students and teach them skills in music, media and production.
Full details of the plans for the museum and how to donate can be found here.
