Former Oasis manager and Creation Records label boss Alan McGee has spoken out about the benefit of The Stone Roses, who are rumoured to be making a new album, gigging in Manchester, T in The Park, and Dublin in 2016.
In an interview with Gigwise he said, “I think Stone Roses coming back is going to make people remember what rock n' roll was again […] It’s brilliant for music. I absolutely love them. I manage Happy Mondays so it gives you an idea of how much I love The Stone Roses."
Speaking about his hopes of other reunions he said, "You never know, if Oasis do come back, even if it’s just for a tour, you’re going to get guitar music becoming really hip for a couple of years again.”
The Glaswegian is well-known for his love of guitar bands and has largely shaped the musical tapestry of the United Kingdom by giving rise to the likes of Primal Scream, The Jesus And Mary Chain as well as Oasis through his Creation label.
His comments reflect an optimistic reflection about how music will move forward and regain the guts it had during Britpop and punk - he’s less than happy with the apathy in the current scene: "Today's acts have nothing to fucking say anymore”.
Meanwhile, McGee responded to Noel Gallagher’s recent claim in an interview with Esquire that "what I want [in a frontman], genuinely, is somebody with a fucking drug habit," by laughing and saying, "Drug problems are fucking shit. Having a drug problem, it sounds funny but try having one.”
