Dev Hynes' demo recording of 'Everything is Embarrasing' for Sky Ferreira has leaked online. Listen to the audio below.
The track, which the Blood Orange songwriter acted as producer on, has long been in contention between the pair. This is due to Hynes choosing to perform the song live, claiming that he wrote it and that Sky added to the composition by improving the vocal structure.
Ferreira originally expressed her frustration her that the majority of songwriting credit goes to the producer. Yet as the demo below (via Stereogum) confirms, it is also a nice indication of how the roles of producer and singer can work together to produce a hit.

Interestingly, while the two versions are very similar, both sides of the story are visible when the two tracks are compared. Hynes wrote the framework, performing the track differently, while Ferreira tightens up the looser ends of the demo on her end.
Hynes work (in finished rather than demo form) can also be heard on the forthcoming Jessie Ware album 'Tough Love' on which Hynes collaborated on the single 'Want Your Feeling'.

On 30 September Hynes will be speaking with New Yorker critic Sasha Frere Jones at the member's club Neuehouse and will feature Hynes performing within an installation created by design firm The Principals.
