Focus Features have confirmed they are developing a Motley Crue biopic based on their autobiography 'The Dirt'.

The critically-acclaimed book, written by members Tommy Lee, Vince Neil, Mick Mars, and Nikki Sixx, as well as author Neil Strauss, is seen as one of the most fascinating, depraved autobiographies ever. Recoring the iconic 1980's band's sordid tales of excess, drug overdoses and sexual encounters, the no-holds-barred account of life at the top of the hair-metal scene is like no other.

Directed by Jeff Tremaine of 'Jackass' fame, and with a screenplay written by Rich Wilkes and Tom Kapinos, Focus is promising "a "Dr. Feelgood" movie that will be an outrageous, larger-than-life depiction of the band's high (and low) life".

Motley Crue's drummer, Tommy Lee has previously said the film will not feature big stars: “We’re going with all unknowns. I think that’s crucial here, too. Getting known actors would not do anybody or the film or the band or any of that stuff justice.

All four members of the band will co-produce the film.
